Free School: Design and Implementation

08/26/2025 in Miscellaneous

Sometimes in class there is a special attention - words fall differently, pauses become meaningful. From this feeling we begin a conversation about what school can be like.

This program is for those who want to rethink what it means to teach and learn.

Over the course of seven months, participants explore the philosophy of humanistic pedagogy, learn about the experience of alternative schools, and study methods that put the child's personality at the center of the educational process.

The course is taught by Rustam Kurbatov, a teacher and author who has been the head of the Ark Lyceum for many years and has developed his own approaches to free education. His experience combines theory and practice: from the philosophy of education to specific techniques that work in the classroom.

The program includes the following topics:

— active lessons and learning without grades;

— learning without homework and with personal meaning for the student;

— changing the content of education;

— the role of a psychologist in school;

— democracy as a subject;

— relationships with parents and interaction with the state;

— pedagogical models of Freinet, Montessori, family education, developmental education and the school of self-determination.

The format alternates lectures, seminars, discussions, project work, role-playing games and meetings with practitioners. In the final, each participant develops and defends their own pedagogical project, which can become the basis for a new educational practice.
